Follow up re Passap E6000 Battery install

Sorry no new machines right now but I am on a learning curve re my Passap E6000 and the required replacement batteries. I live in France so its no easy task to order from other parts of the world and its been made more difficult since Brexit. My E6000 was playing up and who can blame it as its not used anywhere near as much as it deserves but that's the cross to bear when you are a collector of knitting machines, time is of the essence plus in my case the weather because the collection is housed in an old stone bar minus insulation. Recently I have turned one of my spare rooms in the house into a studio so I can house my electronics in here and use them all year as opposed to climatic conditions and example of which right now is the seriously hot weather we are experiencing in Brittany where I have measured temperatures around the 35 - 40 degree mark and believe me it aint no fun moving about. Thank goodness I live in an old stone house which makes a difference in that it is pleasantly cool around the 22 degree mark (well downstairs at least).

Now back to the business of changing the consul battery - initially, using a bit of research I bought the recommended replacement batteries and installed them in all my consuls, and as such instead of testing it properly as I should have I simply turned the machine on and as it

started up I thought great it works and left it at that. Much later, I thought I would give it another test and again it started up and requested the language, which if effect means that the replacement had not worked and the worse thing was, I had replaced the batteries in all 4 of my consuls. Fast forward to the present, I did a bit more indepth research and found an interesting document among my files that gave a detailed instruction of the battery type and step by step instructions and this was by Cristina Power, I have no idea where I picked this up unfortunately, however she recommended using another battery the Panasonic rechargeable VL2020 battery used for BMW E46,E60,E90 key fobs.

After a bit more reseach I found them on Ebay France at a cost of about 11 euros per battery. They delivered fairly quickly and yesterday I installed the first one and good news, it works, I switched it on, it requested the language and the I left it for a couple of hours and switched it off and on, then it went straight into programming. Good news - I am not that great at soldering so it was fairly easy to remove the wrong battery which incidentally looks exactly the same as the one I was replacing it with but the new one. Now my daughter asked me, what difference does it make, I only have to select the language each time and to be honest I am not too sure and what I think is that it does not save the settings for the current project you are working on if you have to switch off the consul in the middle of doing something. I assume these rechargeable batteries last as long as the originals but who can tell. In the meantime I have a few more to replace.

Update - that replacement was successful however when I attempted to replace it within my latest consul which is a wee bit more complex, it was difficult. The soldering I had done the last time was not all that good and to be honest my work on this board left a lot to be desired. I tried a second time and again, same result, no further forward. I was suspicious of the batteries that I ordered on Ebay because they came in small plastic bags and so I thought I will test them and the remaining batteries were under powered. I am beginning to give up however, I ordered another soldering kit, and 2 more batteries from another source and I live in hope this next lot works. These batteries are not cheap at 11 euros a piece.

These batteries are not easy to find properly packed and I think this is the reason. Living in France is a nightmare re postage and many retailers just will not post here or alternatively they get to France and sit somewhere for a month or two, not good news. At least I know I have ordered the correct batteries - by the way the ones I ordered originally were exactly the same type and I suppose its getting batteries that are still working so I have bought 7 so far and only one worked - not good stats. I will update re this subject - just wish I could

solder properly, my dad used a iron on a gas ring and here I have every gadget known to man and I still cannot do it, its at times like these I miss my husband Jack.
