Been a while since I posted – weather here in Brittany is now making my old stone barn a more pleasant place to work in.
Having been tickled into action by a few emails regarding some of my favourite golden oldies, I decided to take them out to give them a look over and a general clean and oil and did they need it!
Passap Automatic with more indepth look at the ribber facility.

The first was the Passap Automatic and ribber, mainly the ribber – must admit its been a while – it was in serious need of a clean up and after this operating the ribber which has to be one of the oddest of concoctions, my favourite type of challenges and believe me this one was a serious challenge. Easy to set up when you know how, and once cast on it is a wonderful ribber, however the problem is the cast on. This outfit has rarely been used, so no excuse of deterioration. The problem stems from the cast on comb which is curved with eyelets that allow the wire to pass through so you can then hang the weights. I did eventually manage to cast on but what a hassle, and so difficult as the space between the beds is just way too tight to pass the comb teeth through and with this ribber, the comb is absolutely necessary to knit rib. Once cast on though, no problem as its one of the turn handle operators, the turn the handle anti clockwise to knit and its so simple to operate and produces such a nice rib.
anyone has a easier idea to attach the curved cast on comb, I would be delighted to hear from them.
